About Me

For more than a decade, Brian Lande has worked in the law enforcement field. Originally serving as the deputy sheriff for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in California, Brian Lande has held such roles as the deputy sheriff for the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office and police officer for Richmond Police Department. He has also worked within the research industry and was the program manager for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). After leaving DARPA, Brian was a research associate at University of California Santa Cruz and then a visiting scholar at the University of California Berkeley’s Social Science Matrix. As a result of Brian’s multi-disciplinary background, Brian has been well positioned to tackle difficult problems from an operational, reserach, and academic point of view.

Mr. Lande has also earned two post-secondary degrees. As an undergraduate, he attended Montana State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in both philosophy and psychology. He subsequently enrolled as a doctoral student at the University of California at Berkeley, where he earned a doctorate in sociology. Given his background in law enforcement, Brian Lande focused his dissertation on human performance, situated learning, and use-of-force training in policing.

Brian Lande’s experience and education culminated in the founding of Polis Solutions, Inc., a technology and research development company that improves organizations understanding of expert performance in mission-critical environments, such as policing and medicine. Mr. Lande currently serves as the chief science officer of Polis Solutions.
